UHD Cheerleaders Win a Bid to National Collegiate Championship Competition
August 2, 2011
The UHD Cheerleaders traveled to Arkansas July 29-31, 2011 to attend summer training camp with the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA). Hosted by the University of Central Arkansas, NCA campers came from all over the state, with the exception of the “lone stars” from Texas! The team shined bright while at camp taking home superior ratings on all evaluations as well as the coveted NCA Spirit Award. The award is given to only one team at camp that the NCA staff sees exhibiting great work ethic, quality sportsmanship, and SPIRIT! A historical moment for the university occurred when the NCA staff announced that the UHD Cheerleaders received their first bid to the NCA Collegiate Championship competition which will be held in Daytona Beach, Florida in April 2012.
As the team continues to prepare for the upcoming school year, they are ready to spread cheer and school spirit around the campus of UHD while also focusing on training and fundraising for Nationals. The first of several fundraising events to assist with expenses for cross-country travel and lodging costs will be a cheer camp held in the UHD Student Life Center next Saturday, August 13th. The camp is for cheerleaders ages four through high school. All campers receive a t-shirt and lunch with their registration.
