Insert A - Interim Funding

It is sometimes necessary for a PI to begin spending funds or making commitments prior to an award arriving at UHD or prior to the effective date of the award. Most federal agencies allow costs to be incurred 90 days prior to the effective date of the award. If a PI has this kind of requirement, he/she should contact OSP, who will contact the sponsor to verify that an award has been made, but the paperwork has been delayed. Once this confirmation is made, OSP will request that a cost center be established and funds budgeted so that the PI can start work on the project. Again, OSP will make that determination based on information from the sponsor.
