Privacy Statement

Thank you for visiting the University of Houston-Downtown web site. The University of Houston-Downtown is committed to ensuring the privacy and accuracy of confidential information. As a public institution of higher education, we do not actively share personal information collected via interaction with our web servers; however, some information may be subject to the Texas Public Information Act as outlined in Texas Government Code, Chapter 552. The University of Houston-Downtown will not disclose personal information about visitors to the web site to anyone outside of the university unless we are required to do so by law.

The University of Houston-Downtown also complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which prohibits the release of education records without a student's permission. We do not release personal student information, other than public directory information, to other parties unless explicit written authorization is provided. Examples of public directory information includes first and last name, address and date of birth. Enrolled students have the option to restrict release of their directory information by visiting the Registrar's office.

We gather generic information about the quantity and timing of web site access so that we can tailor our services and content to better meet the needs of visitors to the web site; however, this information does not involve gathering visitor's personal information. We do use behavioral marketing on the UHD homepage to help increase the effectiveness of UHD Web-based advertising. Use of behavioral marketing using pixel tags complies with all applicable laws.

Open Records Requests

Except for educational records governed by FERPA, all information collected from the University of Houston-Downtown web site, including the summary server log information, e-mails sent to the web site, and information collected from web-based forms, may be subject to the Texas Public Information Act - see University of Houston System Administrative Memorandum (“SAM”) 03.H.02 and Procedures for Charging and Collecting Fees under the Texas Public Information Act.
