Alum Ali Rizvi Gets Targeted Career Experience at the Houston Grand Opera
(Houston, Texas, January 28, 2007) While still a UH-Downtown student during Spring 2006, alum Ali Rizvi (Marketing, 2006) worked in the Marketing Department of the Houston Grand Opera as an Audience Development Intern. The internship was a perfect match for his aspiration to one day open an advertising agency.
Working for the Houston Grand Opera, Ali gained extensive experience in entertainment marketing and was put in charge of researching prospective target audiences and helping increase awareness in unexplored markets in Houston area suburbs.
Ali stays involved in UH-Downtown organizations including the Student Supply Chain Management Association, The Bayou Review and the American Marketing Association. He feels the leadership skills he gained and professional activities he participated in played a part in the success of his internship.
"UHD's American Marketing Association and its supporting advisors have been phenomenal in building confidence in students who are willing to play an active part on campus. This helps a person not only within the classroom but also in the business world, where confidence is key," said Ali.
This March, Ali participates in the annual AMA collegiate convention in New Orleans, LA. The conference brings together marketing juniors and seniors from all over the country to solve a problem or meet a need by using an innovative or creative approach to marketing. This year they will discuss strategies for rebuilding New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
Ali graduated in December 2006 and plans to use the experience gained from his internship at the Houston Grand Opera toward his long-term career goals.
