UH-Downtown Prepares to Congratulate its Red Rose Scholars

UH-Downtown has Selected 25 Deserving Scholars to be Honored at the 26th Annual Red Rose Ball

(Houston, Texas, March 11, 2007)   On Friday, April 13, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Downtown Houston, a Scholars Reception will be held to honor the 25 deserving scholars recommended by the Red Rose Scholarship Committee to receive scholarships at the UH-Downtown 26th Annual Red Rose Ball. The reception will be followed by dinner and a program honoring these bright students who were chosen based upon their distinctive leadership and academic excellence.   Mayor Bill and Andrea White will be honored for their support of education and UHD.   Community Service Award Recipients Jodie and Sonceria "Sonny" Messiah-Jiles will be recognized for their contributions to the Greater Houston community.

Established in 1974, UHD now offers over 40 undergraduate and graduate degrees and has increased 27 percent in student population over the past five years.   The new Shea Street Building, scheduled to open in fall 2007, will house the UHD College of Business. The Commerce Street Building was added in 2004 and houses the College of Public Service.
