The Right Support Helped Alum Achieve her Goals

(Houston, Texas, November 30, 2006) Accounting graduate Kathryn Pearce overcame many obstacles to find success in her career as assistant vice president for mutual fund administration at AIG SunAmerica Asset Management Corp.

A bachelor's degree meant the difference between career success and mediocrity for accountant Kathryn Pearce.   However, the demands of her life as a single mother and head of household had forced Kathryn to put her education on hold, as she was unable to juggle full-time work, school, and children.   Fortunately, UH-Downtown provided her the flexible scheduling and encouragement she needed to manage her time and achieve her dream.

"UHD played a part in my success because I was able to attend night classes to obtain my degree," said Pearce.   "I believe that UHD is perfect for people like me who have started their careers later in life. The professors I had were very helpful and encouraged each student to reach full potential."

Through all these years after her graduation in 1993, Kathryn Pearce is still finding ways to give back to the university that supported her. Aware of the quality of UH-Downtown graduates, she has hired several students from UH-Downtown.   Recently she sat on a panel for the American Society of Women Accountants, UH-Downtown chapter, where she shared her enthusiasm about accounting and the numerous opportunities for accountants.
