EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP SPEAKER SERIES
KATHY HILL TELLS ALL ABOUT FRANCHISING
(Houston, Texas, February 26, 2007) If you've ever toyed with the idea of opening your own business at home, Kathy Hill's lecture, presented through the UH-Downtown College of Business, was one you shouldn't have missed. She addressed the university community on February 8th. One startling fact of her presentation is that, between the years of 2015 and 2025, 70% of the U.S. workforce will be temporary as opposed to permanently employed (presently, only 30% are temporary employees). In other words, 70% will be using 1099s to report income instead of W-2s.
Hill often works with executives who are "transitioning" from permanent positions to something else. Many are interested in starting their own businesses. When comparing corporate jobs to one's own business, Hill notes that the grass isn't greener on the other side – it's just a different color of green. She discusses the three ways to start a business (buy, build, borrow) and the possibility of consulting. To her mind, franchising is one of the least expensive techniques because it borrows systems that are already in place.
To learn more about the fascinating world of franchising, take a little time out to view the video of Hill's presentation. It will suggest possibilities you've never considered.
