(Houston, Texas, November 7, 2006) Communication Studies major Victoria Albert is currently interning with Houston's KUHT PBS Channel 8. Victoria is working alongside television anchor Patricia Gras of the Living Smart with Patricia Gras television show.
The internship requires Victoria to prepare interview questions for Living Smart with Patricia Gras and research topics for prospective shows. This work fits perfectly with Victoria's educational goals by honing skills that will prepare her for a future in broadcasting.
Victoria appreciates the value of interning, as evidenced by her previous internship with CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations a media-related organization and advocacy group in Washington, D.C.
"I believe that the University of Houston-Downtown has and continues to greatly impact my ability to accomplish many things," said Victoria. "The challenging coursework relevant to my major, the wonderful course advisors, and professorial advice, encouragement and critiques provide me with the foundation to succeed in the communication field."
In addition to her busy schedule, filled with classes and the internship, Victoria still manages to stay involved in university activities. She is president of the Muslim Student Association and is a member of UHD's Communication Honor Society, Lambda Pi Eta. She plans to graduate in the fall of 2006.
In a recent taping of a public service announcement for Senator Rodney Ellis, Victoria tested her on-air skills. Ellis, who was producing an educational spot about the TEXAS Grant program, selected recipients of the grant to participate, among others. Just another of the exciting opportunities that come the way of UHD students - Victoria found the experience to be stimulating and instructive.
