UHD student stays abreast of schoolwork, yet finds time to defend his boxing title

(Houston, Texas)   A lot of University of Houston-Downtown students attend classes while they work or maintain careers.   Houston's Downtown University is perfectly situated for such activity.   A perfect example is WBA Lightweight Champion Juan Diaz, who devotes his energies to his two dreams of becoming a lawyer and maintaining his boxing title, which he just successfully defended this past weekend.   It can't be easy, but he, like so many UHD students, marshals the stamina and discipline to do what is necessary to achieve the dream.  

Diaz is a junior pre-law major at UH-Downtown.   He takes the long view toward his future.   His boxing career commands his energy now, but he also devotes attention to pursuing his degree as it is a necessary step for entering law school.   At the conclusion of his boxing career, Diaz hopes to help the less fortunate with legal matters and is well on the way to this commendable goal.

Has Diaz taken on more than he can deliver?   Not at all.   Diaz is a fine model for UHD students who face the challenge of working and taking classes.   He maintains a passing grade point average while training for his matches and keeping in tip-top shape.   In fact, Diaz just won his November 4th match with challenger Fernando Angulo from Ecuador in a unanimous decision.   Way to go, Juan!
