Sam Nuchia, Sitting Appellate Judge, Gives Keynote
(Houston, Texas, April 30, 2007) Alpha Phi Sigma, the Criminal Justice Honor Society, UH-Downtown Chapter, hosted its gala banquet on Saturday, May 5, 2007.
"It's all about recognizing members, graduates and new inductees," says Jeff Watts, chapter president and recently-elected president of the national Alpha Phi Sigma honor society.
This year was special: Sam Nuchia, sitting judge on the Texas Court of Appeals, addressed students. Nuchia has had an extremely distinguished career. He served as a federal prosecutor in the United States Attorney's Office in Houston, moved on to Chief of Police for Houston, and is now an appellate judge for Texas.
At the banquet, new members were inducted, graduating members were presented with honor regalia by Dr. Barbara Belbot, associate professor of criminal justice, and Dr. Bob Walsh, professor of Criminal Justice; and a deserving student awarded for distinguished service.
Faculty from four different junior colleges which send students to our CJ program were also present to enjoy the pecan-encrusted chicken and celebrate student successes.
