is what three University of Houston-Downtown students could easily have been humming on November 9, 2006 at the The University Center (TUC) Scholarship Awards' Ceremony. TUC is a partnership of six universities (of which UH-Downtown is one), North Harris Montgomery Community College District (NHMCCD), and the private sector to provide Bachelor's and Master's degrees and continuing professional studies to over one million folks in the Woodlands area.
The three scholarship awards in general were based upon current enrollment, academic performance, community service or residency, and financial need. Benjamin Masud won The University Center - Sterling Ridge Village Association Scholarship of $1,000. He attended Montgomery College and is now majoring in Marketing from UH-Downtown. Jennifer Bernhardt won The University Center - Follett Scholarship of $500. She graduated from Tomball College and is now majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies from UH-Downtown. James Ridgway, Jr . won the NHMCCD - The University Center Degree Completion Scholarship of $500. He graduated from Montgomery College and is now majoring in English from UH-Downtown.
Dr. Max Castillo, president of UH-Downtown, was on hand to congratulate the winners at the award ceremony. Dr. Castillo is a strong supporter of UH-Downtown classes at The University Center because these classes provide another means of access and opportunity to acquire a quality education for students whose circumstances make the long drive into Houston a limiting factor in completing their educations.
