Borrowing From Other Libraries

UH System Libraries

Do you need a book or DVD that is only available at the University of Houston or the University of Houston-Clear Lake? You may visit the campus and check out materials in person or use the request option in the Library Catalog to get the item delivered to the UHD Library Circulation Desk:

  1. Search for the item you want.
  2. Click the title to display the item record.
  3. Click the request button at the top of the screen.
    4. request button
  4. Fill in the form and then click on the submit button.

You will be notified by email when the item is ready to pick up. Items are usually delivered to the Circulation Desk within 5 business days. If the item is checked out to another person, the item will be delivered after the previous borrower returns it.

My Interlibrary Loan

University of Houston-Downtown students, faculty, and staff can use My Interlibrary Loan to get materials not available at the location where they attend classes or work. Interlibrary Loan staff will search for publications not owned by the W.I. Dykes Library and borrow those publications from other libraries in our nation-wide network. UHD students and faculty at UHD Northwest (University Park), Cy-Fair College, Kingwood, and other UHD off-campus distance sites may also use My Interlibrary Loan to get materials from W.I. Dykes Library collections delivered to them at the site where they attend classes.  For assistance, please call 713-221-8469, e-mail LibraryLoan@uhd.edu, or check the web site’s About Interlibrary Loan page for more information. 

TexShare

Request TexShare Card Online The TexShare Card Program is an initiative of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission that allows UHD students, faculty, and staff to borrow books and other materials from participating Texas libraries. See the TexShare website for rules of participation and a list of participating libraries. Current students, faculty, and staff in good standing can request a TexShare Card free-of-charge from the W.I. Dykes Library Circulation Desk, or by making a request online. TexShare Cards expire at the end of each semester. Lending rules are set by each participating library, so be sure to call ahead before you visit another library to ask about their lending rules and to verify that you are eligible to borrow the materials you need.

Rice University

Rice University does not participate in TexShare. Faculty and students who wish to borrow materials at Rice may request a special reciprocal borrowing application at the UHD Library Information Desk. A UHD identification card is required to request an application. With approval, students may borrow up to 4 books from the Rice University Fondren Library. Applications must include the titles of books the student intends to borrow.

Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center Library

Visitors must show a valid TexShare Card in order to be admitted to the Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center Library. If you plan to visit, come to the W.I. Dykes Library first to request your TexShare Card.
