The University of Houston-Downtown strives to recognize and reward outstanding academic achievement of prospective and continuing students.
Scholarship awards will be awarded as long as funds are available. UHD scholarships are credited toward your tuition and fee bill. If you are awarded funds in excess of your tuition and fee bill, the UHD Student Accounting Office will issue a credit balance on your UHD Higher One GatorCard.
FRESHMAN:
Completion of your Admissions application and formal acceptance as a University of Houston-Downtown student is required to be considered for a UHD Freshman Scholarship. A separate scholarship application is not available or required, however you must meet the following requirements to be considered for this scholarship opportunity:
- Apply for admission to the university one semester prior to May graduation; completion of the admissions process in December is a highly recommended. If you graduate in December the same deadlines apply for consideration for this scholarship. (The freshman scholarship will be awarded the next academic year; Fall/Spring.) Please note that if you chose to enroll in college before the Fall semester following your graduation from high school, all college credits and grades will be considered towards your scholarship eligibility status.
- High school transcripts and college dual credit transcripts must be received by January 10th to allow time for processing; transcripts must be posted in our Student Record System on or before January 31st to be considered. Early high school transcripts are based on your academic progress through December. Please keep in mind that your official transcript(s) should be submitted to the Admissions Office, once they become available.
- Awards are based on students' high school academic record (2.7 GPA or higher - based on a 4 point scale)
on file in our Student Record System; the Scholarship Committee for Future Students will make selections based on students' academic standing.
- The approved freshman scholarship candidates will be notified by mail and acceptance of your agreement must be submitted by the deadline indicated on your contract.
- May be renewable up to 8 semesters - Fall and Spring awards, if renewable criteria are met each semester. Your UHD GPA will be reviewed at the end of each semester; if it drops below the minimum requirement your scholarship will be cancelled. Once award has been forfeited due to low UHD GPA (below 2.7) or because of enrollment status issues (12 or more credit hours required), award cannot be recovered in the future.
