Unified Communication System
UHD is upgrading its phone system with an all-digital telephone system over the next several months (also known as Voice over IP). The upgrade will allow us to take advantage of additional features as a result of the newer technology. In addition to improved quality, the new phone system is expected to reduce the overall maintenance and operational cost associated with the university’s telephone system.

The majority of the faculty and staff at UHD will receive one of the following devices:
Q: When will my old phone be replaced with the new phone?
A: You will be notified in advance via email.
Q: Will my phone number change?
A: Your office phone number will not change.
Q: Do I need an access code for long distance calls?
A: Yes, the process will be very similar. You will dial 6 + the long distance number, enter your code after the two beeps, and then press # or the submit button on the phone.
Q: Will any of my existing functionality change?
A: There will be minimum changes in regards to functionality. Training and training documentation will be available for the new phones and features.
Q: Who do I contact for any technical issues with my new phone?
A: For help with all technical issues including phone, you can contact the IT Help Desk by phone at x3000 or 713-221-8031, or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: Will training on my new phone be available?
A: YES. Look for an email notification regarding available training sessions. Additionally, training documents and videos will also be available.
