Resolution:
There are two suggested workarounds
- Uninstall version 1.5.0_06 and revert back to version 1.5.0_04 which can be found at www.java.com.
- Choose to always trust Java certificates for WebCT and restart the browser. Sample steps:
- Log in to WebCT. After a few moments, one or more "Warning - Security" pop-up windows display with the message "The application's digital signature has been verified. Do you want to run the application?"
- Make sure the option to "Always trust content from this publisher" is selected.
- Click Run. The browser freezes.
- Manually shut down the browser through Task Manager.
- Restart the browser, and log into WebCT. The "Warning - Security" pop-up window does not display. Proceed to access WebCT normally.
Java Setup (Windows Operating Systems Only)
It is critical to have the correct version of Java installed on your computer. If you are having problems using Chat and Whiteboard, Who's Online, HTML Creator, WebEQ Equation Editor, My Computer, and some types of learning modules you will need to check and if necessary upgrade to, or install, the correct version of Java.
For more information about setting up Java correctly go to the WebCT browser tune up www.webct.com/tuneup site and select your operating system and browser version. Scroll down to the Enable Java instructions and configure your settings as directed.

The Sun JRE can be uninstalled by navigating through the menu structure as follows in Windows:
- Select Start -> Control Panel

- Select Java 2 Runtime Environment <unsupported version number> from the list and click Remove.

Enabling Sun Java for Internet Explorer for Windows
It is possible that you may have Sun Java installed on your machine but the Windows version of Java has been set as the default rather than the Sun Java version. The following instructions describe how to make Sun Java the default Java application for your machine.
These steps assume that you have a supported version of the Sun Java Runtime with the Sun Java Virtual Machine (JVM). If you have not done this, go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html to download and install Sun Java.
- On the menu bar, select Tools then Internet Options to open the Internet Options panel.
- On the Internet Options panel, open the Advanced tab.
- On the Advanced tab, scroll down and find the Java (Sun) top-level heading in the list. Make sure that the Use Java 2 ... option under it is enabled.
- Look directly below the Java (Sun) heading for the top-level heading Microsoft VM and de-select all options under this heading.
- Select the OK button to close the Internet Options panel.
- From the Windows Control Panel, open the Java Plug-in control panel.
- Open the Browser tab.
- Place a check mark beside 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' as well as any other web browsers that you regularly use.
- Select the Apply button to save your changes.
- Close the Java Plug-in control panel.
