Job Description

Patrols assigned areas to protect life and property; prevents and detects crime; makes arrests; collects evidence; prepares reports; enforces local, state, federal laws and university parking regulations; conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations; performs building checks with extensive foot patrols indoors and outdoors; maintains surveillance and develops information on criminal suspects; controls traffic at congested sites; performs a wide variety of other law enforcement activities.  

 

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Be a citizen of the United States of America .
Be at least 21 years of age on the date of the application is made.

Be licensed as a peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) OR have your TCLEOSE license completed by September 30, 2008?

Be fingerprinted and be subject to a search of local, state, and national records and fingerprint files to disclose any criminal records.

Not have ever been convicted of a felony offense.

Not currently under indictment or awaiting trial for any criminal offense.

Not be on probation for a criminal offense.
Not ever convicted of any family violence offense.

Not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle.

Not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Not ever have been convicted of, or placed on court ordered community supervision or probation for, any offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor.

Not have been convicted of an offense of the grade of Class B misdemeanor within the last two years.

Not have been convicted in the military of an offense, the facts of which would have been a felony, a crime of moral turpitude, driving while intoxicated, driving while under the influence of drugs or a drug offense in civilian courts of the State of Texas.

Not have an excessive record of traffic convictions or collisions. Overall traffic record must be indicative of safe driving habits.

Not have made a false statement, whether written or oral, in connection with any portion of the hiring or appointment process.

Have a high school diploma or GED and some college is preferred.

Have never been fired or resigned in lieu of termination from another law enforcement agency.

Vision must not be over 20/200 uncorrected in either eye. Corrected vision must be at least 20/30 in both eyes.

Must have color vision without corrective lenses.

Must submit to and pass a polygraph exam.
No applicant will be accepted who currently uses illegal drugs. An illegal drug is any substance covered by the Texas Controlled Substance Act taken without a prescription.

Salary: $39,063/year $18.78/hour

TRAINING/EDUCATION PAY: Intermediate Certificate, Associates Degree or 60 hours college=$100 per month; Advanced Certificate, Bachelors Degree or 120 hours college=$200 per month; Master Certificate or Masters Degree=$250

In addition, the University's Police Department offers tenure pay. After four (4) years of service, the employee receives a $2250 increase in pay; after eight (8) years of service, the employee receives a $1750 increase in pay; after twelve (12) years of service, the employee receives a $1750 increase in pay; after sixteen (16) years of service, the employee receives a $1250 increase in pay; and after twenty (20) years of service, the employee receives a $1250 increase in pay.

In addition, SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL PAY for evening and night shifts is available.

Job Description The University of Houston-Downtown is currently seeking two Security Officers for the Police Department. The ideal candidates protects life and property of the University.

Duties include:

Patrols assigned area on foot to ensure personnel, building, and equipment security;
Project positive image by maintaining professional demeanor with faculty, staff, students, and visitors;
Inspects building and facilities to determine security needs and proper operations;
Reports disorderly or suspicious behavior of persons on campus and attempts to control the situation;
Respond to questions and calls from people in the patrol area to assist with directions, locations, escorts and other service oriented needs;
Adhere to internal controls established for the Department;
Prepare clear, concise reports;
Assists Police Officers when called upon; and
Acts as a deterrent to criminal activity.
Requirements Basic Requirements:
Hight school diploma or GED; and
At least 6 months of experience in a security position.

Parking Enforcement/Escort Officer


Job Description The University of Houston-Downtown is seeking an excellent candidate for the position of Parking Enforcement/Escort Officer. UHD enrolls over 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students and offers daytime, evening, and weekend courses through both classroom and various technology-enabled mediums. UHD has received top rankings by U.S. News & World Report for wireless Internet accessibility and for the diversity of its student body. Houston is the nation's fourth most populous city and second lowest in terms of cost of living among major American cities. The city is home to 23 Fortune 500 companies and many other world-class institutions in the areas of energy, medicine, aerospace, manufacturing, and business services. Basic Duties:
-Enforces university parking rules and regulations by issuing citations;
-Provides escorts to areas immediately surrounding the campus not serviced by university shuttle buses;
-Assists motorists in unlocking and jump starting vehicles;
-Reports the need for maintenance of parking lot surfaces, signs, fencing, and lights in parking facilities;
-Maintains parking gate arms;
-Reports suspicious circumstances to police; and
-Other duties as assigned.
