Overview
Field Experience is available to all currently enrolled University of Houston - Downtown students who meet the requirements below. Field Experience is designed to help students gain experience in their field of interest while earning credit hours that count toward their degrees. Not only will students gain hands-on experience, but they will also be exposed to what is expected of them in the future. It enables students to set their goals higher and make contacts with business professionals who may assist them in their career search upon graduation. All industries and majors provide internships for students - all students have to do is be proactive and seize the opportunity.

If you are an EMPLOYER and would like to post an internship position, please contact us so that we can make arrangements to post the position. Requirements

(Please note that some academic departments may have additional requirements)

  1. You must have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours prior to applying for Field Experience
  2. You must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  3. You must be a declared major at the University of Houston - Downtown
  4. You must have earned a minimum of 6 hours at University of Houston - Downtown
Steps for Applying
  1. Activate an eRecruiting account.
  2. Complete online registration and upload a current resume onto eRecruiting.
  3. Follow instructions on the Field Experience Application.
  4. After approval from your academic department, follow their instructions for enrolling in a field experience course.
Grades and Credits
  • You will be given "Satisfactory, Unsatisfactory or Incomplete". You will not receive a letter grade.
  • Your department's academic advising unit can advise you about use of Field Experience credit toward your degree.
  • Each Field Experience course is worth 3 credit hours. You may not use more than 6 such credit hours toward your degree.
  • Your professor determines the course requirements including class attendance and written assignments.

  1. Once you have activated an eRecruiting account, you may visit http://uhd.erecruiting.com, where positions are listed.
  2. Contact the Field Experience Coordinator in your academic department for assistance in searching for a Field Experience position.
  3. Be proactive and search for positions yourself by making contacts and networking with employers.
International Students
If you are an International Student, you must receive approval from the Coordinator of International Admissions, Suite 325 North (tel.: 713-221-8048), in addition to all of the steps and requirements given above.
