Frequently Asked Questions
 
Do I need to make an appointment to be seen by a clinician? 4
  Appointments are required for all Clinician visits.  Limited, same-day appointments may be available but not guaranteed. 
 
Is there a charge for an appointment? 4
  There is a minimal charge for office visits, laboratory testing, medications and some supplies.
 
May alumni use the services?
  No.  Student Health Services is partially funded by student activity fees.  You  must be enrolled in the current semester to be eligible for health services.
 
I attended classes during the Spring Semester. Can I use the use the services during the summer if I do not attend classes? 4
  Yes. Students who attended classes during the Spring Semester and are not enrolled in the current Summer Semester may use the use the services by paying the Summer Health fee.
 
May faculty and staff of the University of Houston-Downtown use the services? 4
  Yes.  Faculty and staff are eligible for nursing services and limited clinician walk-in urgent care visits (emergencies and urgent care injuries or illnesses).
 
How can I receive contraceptives from Student Health Services? 4
  Student who are enrolled in the current semester are eligible to receive contraceptives.
A copy of a pap laboratory report completed within the last year is required.  A short appointment with one of our clinicians is also required.  If a pap is needed, an appointment may be made with our clinicians.
 
May I get a written excuse?
Student Health Services does not provide written excuses for work, class absences or missed assignments.
  The notifying of instructors and arranging of make-up work, in cases involving absence of students from class, are the responsibility of the student.
 
Is there a fee for missed appointments or late cancellations? 4
  Yes.  You must call BEFORE 8:00 A.M. if unable to keep an appointment.  A fee is charged for missed appointments or late cancellations.
  Our voice mail system is available 24 hours-a-day.  Students arriving late may be required to reschedule their appointment and will be charged a missed appointment fee.
