The University of Houston Downtown chapter of the Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society is a charter member of the state-wide Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society, whose parent organization is The Texas State Historical Association. Our purpose is to educate, document and preserve history on a national, state, and local level. One way the Webb Society achieve this is by sponsoring one or two day trips to places of interest and/or historical significance. These trips are open to all. Come Join Us and be a Part of History
"Encouraging Future Historians"
Other ways the Webb society impacts the community is by sponsoring the History Fair. The precipitants are high school students that present their history projects for judging by a panel from the University of Houston Downtown. Winners receive awards and letters of recognition from the Social Science department. This year the winners will be acknowledged on our web page for their outstanding efforts. We look forward to seeing the new projects and information that these young historians present this year.
"Helping a Neighbor Program"
As
part of its effort to give back to the community, each year the Webb Society
provides help to low- income homeowners that need help in a one day spring
cleaning. This includes painting, light carpentry work, and lawn care.
It is hard work, but the thanks and smiles at the end of the day make it
all worthwhile. If you would like to become part of this helping hand project
please e-mail the club at Andreasmith@lconn.com.
