TRAVEL AND STUDY ABROAD EXPERIENCE: SHANGHAI, CHINA

Course Title: FIN 4390: FOREIGN COUNTRY STUDY EXPERIENCE

Designated Foreign Country for 2005 Trip: Shanghai, China

Purpose of the Course: Course work including travel to Shanghai, China, to gain first-hand practical knowledge and experience in a foreign country, its people and culture, its economy and polity, its trade, investment and business practices as well as its relations with the United States and other countries.

When the Course Offered: May 7 – June 11, 2005. To obtain credit, students need to register for Summer I, 2005. The pre-trip intensive coursework will be held on two Saturdays (May 7th and May 14th), followed by a travel and course work in Shanghai, China from May 17th to May 27th, then followed by a post-trip intensive course work on two Saturdays (June 4th and June 11th), 2005.

Course Prerequisite: None

Length of the Program: About six weeks, mostly Saturdays (see above).

Eligibility: Currently enrolled undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate students at UHD are eligible to participate and earn course credit, while UHD faculty, staff, UHD alumnus, and their relatives can take the trip without registering for the course

Estimated Cost for the Trip: US $2,600.00 Per Person. This cost will cover most expenses including round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations (double occupancy), all breakfasts, two group dinners, six group luncheons, ground transportation, and costs of visiting companies, educational institutions, and cultural sites. The above cost does not include fees for passport, visa, some meals, other incidental expenses, and tuition and fees (if enrolled for course credit).

Financial Assistance: UHD students who meet certain requirements can apply for UHD Study Abroad Scholarship to cover part (about 40%) of the expenses for the trip. To obtain the scholarship, students need to submit the official application form with related documents to Dr. Anisul M. Islam as soon as possible but no later than Wednesday March 30, 2005 deadline.

1. Students and other participants are expected to gain practical knowledge and
experience in a designated foreign country, its people and culture, its economy and polity, its
trade and investment, business practices, and its relations with the United States.
2. Students can earn 3 semester credit hours towards fulfilling one of their electives.
