What is the Texas Success Initiative (TSI)? |
| |
On September 1, 2003, the 78th Texas State Legislature replaced the Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP) with the Texas Success Initiative (TSI). In order to enhance student success, this state-mandated program evaluates college readiness in math, reading, and writing.
All students (unless exempt) entering UHD as undergraduates for the first time are required to take one of the following tests: ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS, or THEA (previously TASP). Students who score below the minimum standard must enroll in the appropriate developmental courses. Additionally, they must meet with an advisor to develop an individualized success plan. Depending on the scores, the student may be required to retest and to enroll in a tutorial.
In your initial meeting with an academic advisor, your advisor will determine whether or not you are exempt from the state’s TSI requirement. Visit the UHD Advising TSI information page for more information on the TSI requirement |

Am I exempt from the TSI requirement as a transfer student? |
| |
Applying as a transfer student does not automatically exempt you from completing the TSI requirement. However, you can be exempt from the requirement in a number of ways. In your initial meeting with an academic advisor, your advisor will determine whether or not you are exempt from the state’s TSI requirement. Visit the UHD Advising TSI information page for a list of exemptions from the TSI requirement |

I am transferring from out-of-state. Do I still have to complete the TSI requirement? |
| |
Students who are transferring from a private or out-of-state, regionally accredited, college or university and who have satisfactorily completed college-level coursework as determined by UHD are exempt from the TSI requirement. In your initial advising meeting after you are admitted, your academic advisor will determine whether or not you meet the exemption for the TSI. |
