TSI and UHD Placement Testing
In order to enhance student success, this state-mandated program evaluates college readiness in math, reading, and writing. All students (unless exempt) entering UHD as undergraduates for the first time are required to take the ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS, or THEA test for TSI purposes. Transfer students can contact the Academic Advising Center to determine exemptions or the need for testing. If you have completed the TSI requirement at another Texas public institution or were exempt from the TSI requirement, it will be noted on your official transcript from that institution. Testing is not held during transfer orientation, testing referrals (if applicable) will be distributed to those students that requested advising at orientation. Each transfer student is responsible for contacting Testing Services to complete their testing before classes (testing fees may apply). Testing schedules and dates are available in Testing Services.

Transfer Credit Evaluations
The Office of Admissions will give priority in evaluating transfer credit to students registered for an orientation program. In order to ensure your transfer credit evaluation, please register early. Only transfer students who attend orientation will receive a transfer credit evaluation prior to registration. All other transfer students may receive transfer credit evaluations upon request.

Advising and Registering for Classes
As a transfer student, there are a few things that you should do before your scheduled orientation program. It is important that you submit your transcripts and supporting documents to the Office of Admissions in order to be advised and register for classes appropriately. All transfer students can be advised and register for classes prior to attending transfer orientation, however, advising sessions are available during orientation to those that have not been previously advised. Please be sure to indicate on your registration form if you require advising during your orientation program.

Declaring a Major
The requirements for declaring a major vary by academic college. Students are encouraged to officially declare majors when they have completed 30-60 credit hours of college-level coursework and have met the requirements of their college. Information on declaring your major will be presented at orientation (applications will also be available). For additional questions, contact the Academic Advising Center.

Scholarships and Financial Aid
A variety of state and federal grants, loans, and scholarships are available to help you with educational expenses through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. In order to get your financial aid ready for your first semester at UHD you must:

Complete a FAFSA (if not completed) and add UHD School Code 003612.
Apply for admission to UHD! Applications are not reviewed unless students are admitted to the university.
Cancel any financial aid that you may have been awarded for a future semester at your previous institution.
Contact the Office of Financial Aid for additional questions or visit the website.

Transfer Center
The Transfer Center serves as the UHD entry point for transfer students interested in attending UHD. The center provides ready access to information that will help students make important decisions about completing their college career. The center also provides walk-in assistance and information regarding transferring to UHD. Stop by or visit their website at www.uhd.edu/transfercenter.
