All transfer orientation programs are closed. If you would like assistance with preparing for your first semester, please refer to the transfer student checklist under orientation resources. Please make sure you see an academic advisor and register for classes. You are also welcome to stop by the orientation office at any time for assistance with general questions and information.
TRANSformation Orientation
As a transfer student, your first step after being accepted to the university is to see an academic advisor and register for classes (see the registration bulletin for more details). The Academic Advising Center will assist you with course approvals. Once you have seen an academic advisor and been approved for courses, you can register classes using student e-services (MY UHD) at www.uhd.edu/eservices.
After you have completed academic advising and registration, we encourage you to attend a transfer orientation program. Since every university is different, it is important to learn valuable information about the university that will help acquaint you with UHD and make your transition to UHD smoother!
Sample Schedule – TRANSformation Orientation
Keep in mind that orientation is designed to prepare you for your semester of classes so when you are choosing a program date, please make sure you can stay the duration of the program. If you do not stay, you risk the chance of delaying class registration or losing the chance to transition to UHD smoothly.
Who can attend TRANSformation Orientation?
If you have more than 15 college-level credits from a regionally accredited school, you are considered a transfer student for admissions purposes and can attend transfer orientation. If you have less than 15 college-level credits, than you are considered a freshman transfer student and must follow the guidelines for our freshman orientation program.
Student returning to UHD (former students) after previously taking classes here should not attend transfer orientation. Please contact the Academic Advising Center (713-221-8006) for an appointment.
IMPORTANT TRANSFER STUDENT INFORMATION:
The TRANSformation Orientation program understands the demands and challenges that can hinder our transfer students from participating in orientation hence it is not required to attend transfer orientation.
How to Register for TRANSformation Orientation
Enrollment in each orientation program is on a first come first serve basis so be sure to register as early as possible. You must log in to the orientation online reservation system in order to sign up for an orientation program. Please remember that registration for all orientation programs close one week before each scheduled orientation date; and all reschedules and changes must be made by the designated registration deadline for preparation purposes. NO WALK-INS ARE ACCEPTED AT ANY TIME!
YOU MUST BE ACCEPTED TO UHD BEFORE REGISTERING FOR ORIENTATION. Only accepted students will be allowed to use the online reservation system. If you are not able to log in to the online reservation system, please make sure you are accepted by checking student e-services (MY UHD) (www.uhd.edu/eservices) or by contacting the Office of Admissions at 713-221-8522. If you are still having trouble logging in, contact Orientation & Special Events at 713-221-8022 for assistance.
Once you register online, you will receive an email confirmation immediately to the email address you indicated on your reservation form (please make sure to click the submit button or else your registration will not be completed). A second confirmation email with logistical and program information will be sent to you one week before your scheduled program. If you requested a temporary parking pass on your registration form, you will receive it by mail (no extra charge) 5 to 7 business days before your program.
Orientation Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
UHD takes pride in assisting students with disabilities as they pursue their academic programs. The Office of Disability Services also assists students with disabilities during orientation but you must make arrangements in advance. If you will need support services during your orientation, please contact the Office of Disability Services at 713-226-5227 or the orientation office. We need to hear from you at least one week prior to your visit in order to have needed support services available when you arrive.
Orientation Fees and Payments
IMPORTANT TRANSFER STUDENT INFORMATION:
All transfer students attending transfer orientation must pay a $40.00 transfer orientation fee (non-refundable) before attending a program. The fee covers meals and all orientation materials.
Your orientation fee must be paid by the registration deadline of your scheduled orientation program or your reservation will automatically be cancelled. If you choose the "bill me later" option for payment purposes and no longer plan to attend orientation, you must contact us by phone or email (orientation@uhd.edu) by the registration deadline to cancel or the $40.00 transfer orientation fee will still be applied to your UHD student account.
All other orientation payments (i.e. rescheduling fee) must be paid online through the online orientation reservation system. You may choose to pay online by credit card or check the "bill me later" option and we will charge your fee(s) to your UHD student account.
Reschedules and Reservation Updates
If you need to reschedule your orientation program, you must do so online by the registration deadline of your scheduled orientation program. All programs will close one week before each program for preparation purposes (see registration deadlines). If you have to make changes to your reservation after the registration deadline, you must contact the orientation office by phone or email for assistance (no changes can be made online after the program has closed). All reschedules made after the program deadline will pay a $20 rescheduling fee for all orientation programs changed.
Additional Testing & Advising Information
Transfer Credit Evaluations
Transfer students that attend transfer orientation are first in line when the admissions office process transfer credit evaluation requests. All other transfer students must submit a transcript evaluation request online (transcript evaluations are available only to students that have been accepted to UHD).
Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and UHD Placement Testing
In order to enhance student success, this state-mandated program evaluates college readiness in math, reading, and writing. All students unless exempt entering UHD as undergraduates for the first time are required to take the ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS, or THEA exam for TSI purposes. Transfer students should contact the Academic Advising Center or check the UHD Catalog online to determine exemptions. If you have completed the TSI requirement at another Texas public institution or were exempt from the TSI requirement, it will be noted on you official transcript(s).
In addition to the TSI requirement, UHD requires that transfer students show readiness or completion of College Algebra, one English Composition, and a reading intensive course(s). If you have not completed each of these courses, you may be required to take the ACCUPLACER exam before advising and registration.
Testing is not held during transfer orientation. Testing referrals are distributed by the Academic Advising Center and you are responsible for contacting Testing Services to complete your testing before classes begin (testing fees will apply). Testing schedules and dates are available online on the Testing Services website.
Declaring a Major
The requirements for declaring a major vary by academic college. Students are encouraged to officially declare majors when they have completed 30-60 college credit hours and have met the requirements of the college. Information on declaring your major is available online and will be discussed at orientation.
Academic Advising & Class Registration
As a transfer student, there are a few things that you should do before your scheduled orientation program. It is important that you have submitted all your transcripts and supporting documents to the admissions office. This will help us help you as you move through the advising and registration process. Since orientation is not required, you can meet with an advisor and register for classes prior to attending transfer orientation. We offer advising sessions and academic college meetings through transfer orientation if you have not been previously advised or want more information on majors and programs.
Information on additional services and resources will be presented at TRANSformation Orientation!
