Non-Traditional Orientation

All non-traditional student orientation programs are closed. Please refer to the freshman and transfer student pages for assistance with your next step!

Non-Traditional Student Orientation

A non-traditional student, for orientation purposes, is a freshman student that is 25 years or older, a freshman transfer student (students with less than 15 college credit hours earned), and all new transfer students (students with more than 15 college credit hours). If you do not fit the requirements listed, you must attend a traditional freshman orientation or transfer orientation program.

Student returning to UHD (former students) after previously taking classes here should not attend transfer orientation. Please contact the Academic Advising Center (713-221-8006) for an appointment.

Non-Traditional Student Orientation is designed to meet the needs of students that are older, working full-time with tight schedules, have family obligations, and/or transferring from another school with some college experience. Non-traditional students are a part of a growing trend of students and this one-day evening program is an abbreviated program to meet their needs.

Sample Schedule – Non-Traditional Student Orientation (evening program)

Keep in mind that orientation is designed to prepare you for your semester of classes so when you are choosing a program date, please make sure you can stay the duration of the program. If you do not stay, you risk the chance of delaying class registration or losing the chance to transition to UHD smoothly.

How to Register for Non-Traditional Student Orientation

Enrollment in each orientation program is on a first come first serve basis so be sure to register as early as possible. You must log in to the orientation online reservation system in order to sign up for an orientation program. Please remember that registration for all orientation programs close one week before each scheduled orientation date; and all reschedules and changes must be made by the designated registration deadline for preparation purposes. NO WALK-INS ARE ACCEPTED AT ANY TIME!

YOU MUST BE ACCEPTED TO UHD BEFORE REGISTERING FOR ORIENTATION. Only accepted students will be allowed to use the online reservation system. If you are not able to log in to the online reservation system, please make sure you are accepted by checking student e-services (MY UHD) (www.uhd.edu/eservices) or by contacting the Office of Admissions at 713-221-8522. If you are still having trouble logging in, contact Orientation & Special Events at 713-221-8022 for assistance.

Once you register online, you will receive an email confirmation immediately to the email address you indicated on your reservation form (please make sure to click the submit button or else your registration will not be completed). A second confirmation email with logistical and program information will be sent to you one week before your scheduled program. If you requested a temporary parking pass on your registration form, you will receive it by mail (no extra charge) 5 to 7 business days before your program.

Orientation Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

UHD takes pride in assisting students with disabilities as they pursue their academic programs. The Office of Disability Services also assists students with disabilities during orientation but you must make arrangements in advance. If you will need support services during your orientation, please contact the Office of Disability Services at 713-226-5227 or the orientation office. We need to hear from you at least one week prior to your visit in order to have needed support services available when you arrive.
