All parent and family orientation programs are closed. If you would like information on student services and resources to assist your student, please request a parent welcome packet under orientation resources.
Parent and Family Orientation
We realize that parents and family members help students succeed in college and they are very important to UHD. In order to assist parents and family members with their transition to UHD, we offer parent and family orientation during some of our freshman orientation programs.
The parent and family orientation is designed to give family members valuable information on UHD. Parents and students will be together for some orientation activities such as lunch and departmental presentations but you will have an opportunity to enjoy special sessions to address the concerns and needs of your educational investment while students participate in activities with current and future students. This program is held on DAY ONE of your students' freshman orientation (sessions vary). There is no Parent & Family Orientation on DAY TWO of freshman orientation.
Sample Schedule – Parent & Family Orientation
Parents and Family Members of Transfer, International, and Non-Traditional Students!
Currently, we only offer parent & family orientation during designated freshman orientation programs due to space limitations. Guests, parents and family members of students attending all other orientation programs are encouraged to visit the UHD website at www.uhd.edu to gain valuable information about the university and its student resources.
How to Register for Parent & Family Orientation
Enrollment in each orientation program is on a first come first serve basis so be sure to register as early as possible. Your student must log in to the orientation online reservation system in order to sign up for an orientation program. Please remember that registration for all orientation programs close one week before each scheduled orientation date; and all reschedules and changes must be made by the designated registration deadline for preparation purposes. WATCH OUT FOR PARENT WALK-IN FEES!
Important Information Regarding Parent & Family Orientation!
In order to attend Parent & Family Orientation, you and your student MUST agree to attend one of the designated orientation program dates when parent and family orientation is held. We no longer offer parent and family orientation with every freshman orientation program. If you cannot attend one of the designated parent and family orientation dates, please complete the parent welcome packet request form online and we'll mail you the information presented in our parent and family orientation.
Once your student register online, he/she will receive an email confirmation immediately to the email address they indicated on their reservation form (please make sure they click the submit button or else their registration will not be completed). A second confirmation email with logistical and program information will be sent to them one week before your scheduled program. If you all requested a temporary parking pass on your registration form, you will receive it by mail (no extra charge) 5 to 7 business days before your program.
Parent & Family Orientation Fees and Payments
All parents and family members attending parent and family orientation must pay a $40.00 parent and family orientation fee (non-refundable) before attending a program. The fee covers meals and all orientation materials. A freshman student is allowed to bring up to two parents or guests to orientation.
We do not charge for family members and guests 9 years old and younger, HOWEVER, family members and guests 10 years old to 15 years old must pay a $20.00 fee while all others pay the$40.00 fee.
Please help us by encouraging your students to choose their guests wisely before signing up for orientation. Parents and guests do not spend the whole day with their students during orientation!
All orientation payments must be paid online through the online orientation reservation system. Your student may choose to pay online by credit card or check the "bill me later" option and we will charge your fee(s) to the student's UHD student account. The orientation fee(s) must be paid one week before your scheduled orientation program or your reservation will automatically be cancelled. If your student choose the "bill me later" option for payment purposes and you (the parent/guest) no longer plan to attend orientation, your student must contact us by phone or email (orientation@uhd.edu) by the registration deadline to cancel or the parent and family orientation fee(s) will still be applied to the student's UHD student account.
Reschedules and Reservation Updates
If you and your student need to reschedule your orientation program or add/cancel guests, you must do so online by the registration deadline of your scheduled orientation program. All programs will close one week before each program for preparation purposes (see registration deadlines). If you have to make changes to your reservation after the registration deadline, you must contact the orientation office by phone or email for assistance (no changes can be made online after the program has closed).
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND:
All reschedules for freshman students made after the program deadline will pay a $20 rescheduling fee for all orientation programs changed. Your freshman students do not have to change their orientation date if their guest(s) will no longer attend orientation with them. All additional guests added to the reservation after the registration deadline will pay an additional $10.00 guest walk in fee (this includes a guest walk in the day of orientation).
We invite you and others to join us at Parent & Family Orientation. You're sure to find the information helpful and useful, not to mention fun!
