Getting Your Financial Aid

How and when you receive your financial aid funds depends on the type of financial aid you are awarded. Below is a general guide to assist you in planning your finances.

Federal and State Grants

The following grant funds will be automatically credited to your account when you enroll for the number of hours for which you are awarded:

Federal Pell Grant

TEXAS Grant

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

License Plate Scholarship

Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG)

All scholarships awarded by UHD

Student Deposit Scholarship

Private scholarships sent for your account

Academic Competitiveness Grant National Smart Grant

IMPORTANT NOTE: Since financial aid awards are automatically applied to your account, your classes will NOT be dropped for non-payment. If you change your mind about attending UHD, be sure to notify the Office of Admissions and Records and have them cancel your registration.

If you are awarded funds in excess of your tuition and fee bill, a refund will be sent to your GatorCard by the UHD Student Accounting Office within 14 business days.

Stafford and PLUS Loans

Loan funds sent via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) will be credited directly to your account provided that: 1) you have completed any loan counseling requirement, 2) you are enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours and 3) you meet all other eligibility requirements. You will be emailed notification of the amount of loan funds credited to your account.

Loan funds mailed to UHD in the form of a check will be forwarded to the Cashier’s Office for you to pick up. You will be mailed notification when your checks are available for pick-up.

PLUS loan checks will be sent certified mail to the parent by Student Accounting.

Scholarships

Scholarships awarded by UHD will be available for credit toward your tuition and fee bill. If you are awarded funds in excess of your tuition and fee bill, you will have a balance check mailed to your home address by the UHD Accounting Office.

Scholarships awarded by organizations outside UHD will be disbursed according to guidelines provided by the donor organization.

College Work-Study Program

Work-Study is need-based funding in which you must work to earn.  College Work-Study positions are posted in the lobby area of the OSFA. If you want to apply for a particular position, you should take your award letter to the posted contact person for that position.
