Tutor Hours:
Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Saturday 11:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.

Invention Conferences help writers working on:

Understanding the assignment
Defining the task (including audience and purpose)
Discussing the issues
Understanding the readings
Finding and appropriate topic
Finding ideas and brainstorming
Completing textbook invention exercises

Planning Conferences help writers working on:

Organizing the data from the readings or invention process
Finding the point, the focus, a working thesis, a forecasting statement
Outlining, listing, clustering
Setting goals

Working Draft Conferences help writers considering first drafts for:

Full response to assignment
Focus
Organization of points
Paragraphs with specific details
Introductions
Conclusions
Plans for revision based on peer review and other feedback

Revised Draft Conferences help writers revising (again) for:

Organization
Development
Paragraph problems
Clear sentences and diction
Finer points of writing strategies, style, wording, vocabulary

Editing Conferences help writers:

Find and correct mechanical difficulties by focusing on a single problem
Surface features and details of grammar
Proofread (Writing Center Tutors don't proofread for you. We teach you how.)
Documentation and attribution of outside sources (ex: MLA format, etc.)
Manuscript format

Post-Grading Conferences help writers:

Respond to and interpret instructor comments (Tutors do not critique the grade.)
Discover strategies for revision of this essay or improvement on future essays
