Course Description |
The course covers the major theoretical positions and research that contributed to development of psychology as a scientific discipline, and the developments from the late 19th century to the present
|
Course Objectives |
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Analyze the impact of philosophical issues in psychology and other sciences,
- Define key theories and principles relevant to the history of psychology.
- Identify how the roots, the theories, and the relevance of several of the major trends in modern psychology
- Demonstrate how world views (religious, political, moral, and psychological) shape views of humans and psychology
- Demonstrate critical thinking in discussions and written assignments using philosophical dilemmas, historical trends, and the history of changes in the way humans view themselves
- way humans view themselves Use information and technology when doing work in psychology (including, the abilities to use computers to find information, write papers, and other tasks critical to work in psychology).
- Analyze the influence of sociocultural and international context on individual differences and how those differences affect beliefs, values, and interactions among diverse people.

Policies

Course Policies: This online class does not require on-campus meetings. All work will be submitted online using Blackboard Vista. The course includes journals, web assignments, class discussion and tests. All assignments can be submitted at any time, but there is a deadline for each one, so make sure you allow yourself enough time to submit your work. Technology is picky and Vista clock time is important. No late assignment will be accepted unless students provide medical or legal documentation.

of the Academic Honesty Policy found in the UHD Student Handbook. Please read the Academic Honesty Policy carefully. Any violation of this policy may result in an “F” for the course.

Technology |
The system you will use to access this online course is Blackboard
Vista. Students are expected to have computer access on a daily basis
to successfully complete this course. Note: If you plan to
access the course from work, try connecting early in the course. Some
businesses have very rigid settings on their firewalls that do not
allow participation in activities such as chat, or the interactivity
necessary to take a quiz online.
Internet Service Provider - this course is done via connection through the internet. If
you are going to work on your class from home, you must have DSL or
cable modem line to guarantee solid high-speed access and optimal
performance of the course program.
