Course Description

Study of accounting systems as information and control systems, financial information needs, control methods and efficiency measures.

PREREQUISITE:Prerequisite (s) ARE NOT optional, pre-requisites ARE requirements or courses that must be completed PRIOR to taking the course.  The pre-requisite(s) for this course are described in the UHD catalog course description as:  Prerequisite: ACC 3300 Intermediate Accounting I.

            It is the students’ responsibility to insure that they meet the pre-requisites prior to enrollment in this course.  If the student enrolls and does not meet the pre-requisites he/she may be administratively withdrawn from the course at any time.  The administrative withdrawal will result in NO REFUND of tuition and fees because it appears that the student knowingly enrolled in the course in violation of the Catalog requirements.  Any variance in pre-requisite requirements or this policy must be obtained in writing from the Department Chair prior to enrollment in this course.

Course Objectives

Become familiar with the analysis, design and implementation of information systems; acquire a vocabulary of current systems technology; to understand the control requirements for specific information systems; become familiar with the life cycle of system development methodology; use a software package to enable a hands-on approach to accounting information systems via Peachtree software.

Policies

COURSE POLICY:
Project/Case/Activities::
In addition to the Discussion Question/Cases, students will be responsible to complete an Excel Cash Budgeting Case,  a Yacht AIS Peachtree Project as well as Chapters 1-17 Yacht AIS Chapters using Peachtree software which is included in the Yacht text book. Students’ work will be evaluated via 2 Yacht Chapter Quizzes and a Yacht Project Quiz. Students are also responsible for a PowerPoint presentation/research paper.  Details for all assignments can be found in the Assignment area of Vista as well as under General Information.  STUDENTS...please take the time to read all instructions...the Summer 1 classes are much shorter than the regular semesters; however, the same course content will be covered in both summer and longer fall and spring semester courses.

Examinations:
There will be a Mid-term and a Final examination.  Please be aware of dates exams are open as there are NO MAKEUP EXAMS

ONLINE COURSE RESTRICTION FOR CPA CANDIDATES:
Students should be aware of the fairly new requirement from the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy that indicates that only a maximum of 15 out of the 30 upper division accounting courses can be taken in a distance learning format.  More info on the website: www.TSBPA.STATE.TX.US    At the website, click * Board Rule 511.57 - Definition of Related Business Subjects  under Part C.

Please read the Academic Honesty Policy carefully. Any violation of this policy may result in an “F” for the course.

Technology

The system you will use to access this online course is Blackboard Vista. Students are expected to have computer access on a daily basis to successfully complete this course. Note: If you plan to access the course from work, try connecting early in the course. Some businesses have very rigid settings on their firewalls that do not allow participation in activities such as chat, or the interactivity necessary to take a quiz online.
Internet Service Provider - this course is done via connection through the internet. If you are going to work on your class from home, you must have DSL or cable modem line to guarantee solid high-speed access and optimal performance of the course program.
