Course Description |
This course introduces the development of computer-based systems to manage business data. The organizational context of database management, concepts of data modeling, and database design are presented. Data file management, database implementation and data retrieval using query languages and graphical user interface are introduced. Database administration issues are discussed and new database technologies are introduced
PREREQUISITE: Prerequisite(s) ARE NOT optional, pre-requisites ARE requirements or courses that must be completed PRIOR to taking the course. The pre-requisite(s) for this course are described in the UHD catalog course description as: Completion of the common core plus 18 additional hours and a grade of C or better in CIS 3301 and CIS 3302 are required.

Course Objectives |
Upon completion of the prescribed work for this course, the student should be able to:
- Define the components and terms used in database management systems; this includes file systems, the relational model and an introduction to the Structured Query Language
- Design a database system this includes entity relationship modeling, normalization of database tables, database design, and conceptual design
- Implement the design of a database system this includes the design of a relational system utilizing SQL
- Become familiar with the SAP database utilizing a tutorial which will introduce you to the basic navigation skills for SAP
- Be familiar with some advanced tools used for database development and online database development
- Be familiar with the utilization of databases in newly emerging areas such as: object-oriented databases, client/server systems, and data warehouses
