Course Description

Factors involved in the management of the marketing function relative to product development, promotion, pricing, physical distribution and the determination of marketing objectives within the framework of the marketing system and available markets. 

PREREQUISITE(s): ARE NOT optional, pre-requisites ARE requirements or courses that must be completed PRIOR to taking the course.  The pre-requisite(s) for this course are described in the UHD catalog course description as:
Completion of the common core plus 18 additional hours and completion of, or enrollment in, BA 3300. BA 3300 may be waived upon completion of HUM 3310 or CJ 3300.

It is the students’ responsibility to insure that they meet the pre-requisites prior to enrollment in this course.  If the student enrolls and does not meet the pre-requisites he/she may be administratively withdrawn from the course at any time.  The administrative withdrawal will result in NO REFUND of tuition and fees because it appears that the student knowingly enrolled in the course in violation of the Catalog requirements.  Any variance in pre-requisite requirements or this policy must be obtained in writing from the Department Chair prior to enrollment in this course.

Course Objectives

This course focuses on learning and applying the key concepts and principles of marketing.  Students learn that the primary objectives of marketing within a firm are (1) understanding what customers’ value, (2) creating value, (3) communicating value and (4) delivering value.

Course Policy

All course work is completed online.  There are no REQUIRED face-to-face meetings.  However, you will be required to work in teams and participate in online chats.  The course is divided into five modules based on the four objectives listed above plus an overview of marketing.  Within each module there are textbook readings, slide shows, online quizzes, discussion topics, and written assignments.  Integrated into the modules are exercises pertaining to the PharmaSim simulation.  The student will obtain hands-on experience managing an over-the-counter cold remedy in the PharmaSim world.  PharmaSim is a sophisticated simulation program that allows the student to apply the key concepts and principles covered in this course in a dynamic setting.  Students will work in teams for some of the assignments in this course.

Please read the Academic Honesty Policy carefully. Any violation of this policy may result in an “F” for the course.

The system you will use to access this online course is Blackboard Vista. Students are expected to have computer access on a daily basis to successfully complete this course. Note: If you plan to access the course from work, try connecting early in the course. Some businesses have very rigid settings on their firewalls that do not allow participation in activities such as chat, or the interactivity necessary to take a quiz online.
Internet Service Provider - this course is done via connection through the internet. If you are going to work on your class from home, you must have DSL or cable modem line to guarantee solid high-speed access and optimal performance of the course program.
