What is Interlibrary Loan?

The UHD Interlibrary Loan service (ILL) researches publications that are not owned by UHD and then borrows those publications from other libraries in our nation-wide network.

UHD students at UHS Cinco Ranch, the University Center, CyFair College or San Jacinto College North may also use Interlibrary Loan to get materials delivered to them from UHD library collections.

The interlibrary loan service is designed to supplement the library’s collection and provide users with options for obtaining research materials from a broad spectrum of disciplines.

Who May Use Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan is available to current UHD faculty, staff, and students.

UHD faculty, staff, and students who have overdue ILL material are not eligible for the service until all material is returned.

How Do I Submit a Request?

Submit requests electronically using these online forms (Article Request Form or Book/Media Request Form) or use the printed ILL request forms which are available at library help desks.

There is no limit placed on the number of requests a patron may submit; however, during peak periods, only 5 requests per individual will be processed per day.

Requests received by 8 a.m. will be researched the same day.

It takes approximately 1-2 weeks for materials to arrive; articles often arrive sooner – sometimes in 4-5 days. Some items may take longer. We are unable to predict actual turnaround time in advance, since there is not a way to determine which library will actually supply the required item.

Please check the Library Catalog to be sure we do not own the book needed. Please check Find Articles and Journals to be sure we do not have access to the journal which contains the article needed. Requests for items available in the UHD library will not be filled through interlibrary loan.
