What is the Freshman Summer Success Program?

UHD's Freshman Summer Success Program is an expanded orientation program for incoming freshmen that fully engages students in the critical transition from high school to college.

Learning what it means to be a college student and acquiring the skills to navigate successfully within the university's structure can be both intimidating as well as frustrating without the proper preparation and guidance .

Orientation is a program designed to introduce new students into the University of Houston- Downtown community. It is designed to meet the needs of new students entering the university and to help make their transition to the university a smooth and enjoyable one. As an incoming freshman at UHD, you are expected to attend a Freshman Student Orientation session.

There is an extensive body of research that shows that the students most likely to be successful are those who are engaged in their studies and form early connections with their university. Egyptian Pyramid

Some of the benefits of attending the FSSP:

  • Interact with university faculty, academic advisors, financial aid counselors, student ambassadors, and supplemental instruction leaders

  • Experience college firsthand by participating in sample classes taught by college professors

  • Understand the expectations of the university and become familiar with the university's resources and services

FSSP '07 Theme

The thematic focus of the 2007 Freshman Summer Success Program will engage students in a study of archeology,
ancient civilizations, and specifically:
“All things Egyptian.”

Journey back in time to the mystery-shrouded civilization of ancient Egypt. Explore the rich and unexplained wonders of ancient Egypt.

This summer we will unlock the secrets of the Pyramids and the Sphinx, decipher cryptic hieroglyphics, and explore the rich and mysterious wonders of ancient Egypt and the legendary King Tut.

Study the past as you prepare for your future.
