The FSSP is an expanded orientation program for incoming freshmen that fully engages students in the critical transition from high school to college.
This year's theme is Health Care Reform: The Promise of Affordable Access to Medical Care for All.
Among the most controversial challenges facing our nation’s current administration, health care continues to dominate the political arena. Heated debates question the fate of proposed efforts to reform a system that few would argue is adequate to provide care for all. In Houston, we witness both the failure and the promise of the U.S. health care system. The 2010 Freshman Summer Success Program will focus not only on our national health care crisis but investigate the issue of accessibility and affordability from a broader perspective as the global community responds to this plight challenging our planet’s sustainability. The recent tragedy in Haiti has focused world-wide attention on the countless injured individuals whose survival was compromised by inaccessibility to medical care. Yet despite a tragedy of this magnitude, each day, poverty continues to claim an even greater number of victims who lack the finances to seek basic medical assistance.Monday, July 12Th and Wednesday, July 14th (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) |
