The Learners' Community at UHD began in fall semester 2000.  The program was made possible by a Title V Grant furnished by the U.S. Department of Education.  The faculty and staff of the LC endeavor to provide guidance and support that are specific to the needs of beginning students.  These services are directed toward helping students adjust to the environment of college, while fostering their development as learners in the arena of higher education.
The project's goals are:

  • To increase the persistence rate of those students enrolled in the program,

  • To improve their academic performance,

  • To enhance their adjustment to college during their first year,

  • To increase the chance that they will attain a baccalaureate degree within five to six years.
