Financial aid counseling addresses a critical need of UHD's students. Because many come from low-income families, they are often called upon to contribute to the family income at the expense of their academic careers. Relieving students of their financial obligations to their families increases the possibility of their academic success. Financial aid also reduces the stress associated with tuition costs, thereby influencing student retention.
The Financial Aid/Outreach Liaison works with UHD’s Office of Financial Aid to assist Learners’ Community students in securing and completing application materials for federal, state, and private grants and scholarships. She works closely with coordinators at Jeff Davis High School and the El Paso Corporate Foundation to assist students in qualifying for and maintaining their scholarships. In regularly scheduled workshops at Davis, she assists seniors and their parents with completing the FAFSA forms and understanding options for family financial planning. An additional activity is recruiting UHD students into a Project GRAD - GEAR UP program to mentor middle school students.
