Student Achievement & Success

Two students sitting on the step by the Coffee HouseThe original focus of the Achieving the Dream initiative was to foster the academic success of community college students. Emphasizing a"culture of evidence," it now includes selective universities. The initiative now is particularly concerned about student groups that traditionally have faced significant barriers to success, including students of color and low-income students.

The project's goals are:

  • Provide planning and implementation grants to colleges and state policy efforts.
  • Help colleges develop and implement strategies to improve student success..
  • Enhance their adjustment to college during their first year.
  • Increase the chance that they will attain a baccalaureate degree within five to six years.
  • Engage communities, businesses and the public.
