Scholarships

The College of Sciences & Technology offers an array of scholarships to science and technology students each year. Some scholarships are need-based, while others merit-based. Each internally and externally funded scholarship will have unique guidelines in terms of criteria, award amount, frequency of awards, deadlines and submission processes.

Scholarship opportunities:



UGI-CSTEM Scholarship for CSET & MS
Award: Up to 10,000 per academic year, dependent on student's FAFSA eligibility
Criteria:
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Demonstrate financial need as defined for undergraduate students by the U.S. Department of Education for need based financial aid (FASFA)

  • College applicants must satisfy:
  • Minimum 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in college
  • Major in Computer Science or Mathematics

  • High School applicants must satisfy:
  • Minimum score of 450 on SAT math and verbal exam sections
  • Credit for at least pre-calculus
Application:
  • A completed UGI-CSTEM application form
  • One-page typed statement of applicant’s academic and professional goals
  • Copy of official high school and/or college transcript(s)
  • Copy of current SAT or other standardized exam scores (i.e. ACT) for High-School applicants
  • A sealed recommendation letter from current counselor or instructor

June P. Wood Memorial Scholarship for MS
Award: $500 Fall and Spring semester
Criteria:
  • Be a declared major in Applied Mathematics
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Have completed at least 60 credit hours toward the degree
  • Be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours in the semester scholarship is received

Edwin and Justine Hodgess Memorial Scholarship for MS

Award: $750 for the Fall and renewable for the Spring semester
Criteria:
  • Be a declared major in Applied Statistics, or Mathematics (B.A. or B.S.)
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Have completed at least 45 credit hours toward the degree, at least 30 or more are from UHD
  • Be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours in the semester the scholarship is received
  • The scholarship may be received up to 2 academic years.
  • **All applicats must submit the following materials together in one envelope to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics (S705). A scholarship application includes: update personal information (name, address, telephone number, email); any other scholarship received; any honors received.

Marianne de Korvin Scholarship for MS
Award: Award amount will vary
Criteria:
  • Must be a declared major in Mathematics, Computer Science or Statistics
  • A certified full-time undergraduate
  • An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Completed 60 credit hours toward the degree
  • Need Based (must demonstrate financial need)

UHD Noyce Mathematics Teacher Scholarship for MS

Award: $12,000 per year for two years
Criteria:
  • Major in mathematics and obtaining secondary teaching certification
  • Have an overall GPA of 2.80 GPA or greater
  • Junior or senior status
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Note: Students earning scholarship funding will be required to teach mathematics in a "high needs" school district for two years for each year of funding after graduation.

Cohen Premedical Studies Scholarship for NS

Award: $1000 Full time
Criteria:
  • Degree-seeking student at UHD
  • Completed 24 UHD credit hours
  • Must be declared as a premedical student (the premedical student declaration form must be on file in the science office, Rm. N813)
  • Must have 60 semester hours of college level credit
  • Have an overall 3.25 GPA or greater
  • Register for 12 hours

Note: Students are eligible to reapply for this scholarship in future semesters as long as they continue to meet the stated criteria for the scholarship.

The Joan S. Abramowitz Undergraduate Research Scholarship Endowment for NS
Award: $3,000 Full time
Criteria:
  • Must have completed at least 24 hours of college work at UHD
  • Must have completed General Microbiology or equivalent
  • Must be a certified full-time undergraduate or graduate
  • Must have a minimum of 3.25 GPA
  • Scholarship recipient must commit to a minimum of 40 hours per week of research in the lab in which they will work

Welch Foundation Scholarships for NS

Award: Up to $1000 Full time to up to $500 Part time
Criteria:
  • Declared Chemistry major
  • 2.5 minimum GPA
  • Interest in completing chemistry, geochemistry or biochemistry research with a science faculty mentor
  • Registration or credit for 3300 Research (Full time only)
  • UHD Registration required

Note: You can receive this scholarship in addition to other scholarships for the same semester, depending upon your financial need.

Noyce Science Teacher Scholarship for NS

Award: $8,000 per academic year
Criteria:
  • Junior-level status
  • Plan to teach in high school or middle school
  • Maintain an overall 3.0 GPA

Note: Accepted candidates for this program will sign a contract that requires two years of service at an at-risk secondary school for every year of scholarship support, after earning a baccalaureate or master’s degree in an area of science from UHD. Post-baccalaureates can also receive stipends and are encouraged to apply. The degree requirement will be waived for all post-baccalaureate participants

Scholars Academy Scholarship

Award: Up to $5,000-6,000 per academic year
Criteria:
  • Current High School Seniors
    • Have a 3.0 overall GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
    • Minimum SAT test score of 1,000 (500 each on mathematics and critical reading sections) or equivalency on other standardized exams
    • Credit for at least pre-calculus in high-school (minimally preferred)
    • Be enrolled as a full-time student and member of the Scholars Academy
  • Automatic Acceptance Pathway for Freshmen into Scholars Academy
    • Be offered and accept a UHD Merit Scholarship Renewable (4 years at $6,000/yr; minimum GPA of 3.5) must complete UHD Admissions application by Dec. 1st
    • Be offered and accept a UHD Non-Renewable Scholarship (1 year up to $5,000; minimum GPA of 3.5)
    • Submit an SA applications following scholarship award
  • Current Transfer applicants
    • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in college within last 4-5 years
    • Be enrolled as a full-time student and member of the Scholars Academy
    • Be offered and accept a UHD Transfer Merit Scholarship: automatic acceptance into Scholars

    • Note: Most scholarships require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency; international students are still invited to apply; New students entering UHD as freshmen or transfers (less than 75 college credit hours) are first priority. Socially and economically disadvantaged and/or disabled students, veterans, females and ethnic minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Dr. Barry S. Garrett Endowed Scholarship Award
Award: $1000 Fall and Spring semester
Criteria:
  • Member of the Scholars Academy and a declared major in a STEM field
  • First-time-in-college freshman
  • Have an overall 3.0 GPA or greater
  • Enrolled in at least 12 credit hours in the semester scholarship program is received and maintain a full course load status
  • Maintain all SA requirements
  • Maintain good academic standing
  • Accepted and enrolled at UHD as a full-time student
