
MARC USP: Application Process
The Application process consists of an application, a Biomedical Interest Essay and two letters of recommendation from science instructors or research advisors. Applications are available online. Students should apply the year before their Junior Year.
Applications will be accepted in the SA office beginning the first Monday of January. By April 1st, the MARC USP Selection Committee will meet to choose or renew the six scholars for the following year (three juniors and three seniors).
MARC USP: Eligibility Requirements
Requirements for acceptance into the MARC USP include:
1. A 3.25 cumulative undergraduate UHD G.P.A.
2. Underrepresented minority status
3. U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency
4. Participation in the Biomedical Laboratory Science Course
5. And, an essay that expressing an interest in completing a doctoral program in the biomedical sciences
Students must be either a sophomore or junior to be eligible to apply. Juniors within the program who maintain the required 3.25 GPA and qualified status within the program may be promoted to Senior MARC Scholars Status. If a senior position should become available due to attrition of a Junior Scholar, applications would be accepted for the open senior position(s), but eligibility for an open position would require undergraduate research experience in the biomedical sciences and attendance of GRE prep courses that are currently available from the Scholars Academy.

Dr. Tom Goka, Assistant Dean of Outreach at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
Dr. Jon Aoki, Assistant Professor of Biology and Science Education
Dr. Larry Spears, Professor of Chemistry
Students will be notified of their acceptance into the program by April 20th each program year.
Accepted students will be required to participate in MARC USP Training Activities that will be held in the summer, including Undergraduate Research Programs and the Family Symposium.
