|The Department of Mathematics & Statistics (MS) is one of three academic departments within the College of Sciences & Technology at the University of Houston-Downtown. The department offers broad-based studies in mathematics and statistics, which prepares students for an array of careers requiring advanced skills in quantitative reasoning. The MS department carries out this mission by providing educational opportunities for students through small classes, opportunities for independent study and research, and a senior project.||

The department also provides flexible learning options. On-campus classes, online courses, hybrid courses, and weekend courses are available to accommodate students that work and commute.
In conjunction with the Department of Urban Education, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers preparation for teacher certification. Our degree programs in MS also provide the foundation for those students interested in pursuing graduate degrees.
The MS degree programs offer a variety of specialized concentrations in each degree program and in several minors, to help students obtain the most from their degrees.
