Richard Coleman has recently retired from the petrochemical industry
where he worked for a number of companies and in a variety of positions.
He has thirty years experience in process operations and ten years as
a training specialist. The experience in process operations involved synthetic
rubber, olefins (ethylene and propylene), and styrene monomer manufacture
as a process technician. He held the position of utilities section shift
supervisor for twelve years. Richard has extensive experience in the operation
of pumps, compressors, boilers, cooling towers, reactors, distillation
columns, fired heaters, and other equipment. As a trainer, he developed
a technician qualification program for all process and maintenance employees.
This program was in compliance with the OSHA process safety management
regulation. Richard developed a training documentation computer program
to track progress. He has participated in audits with positive results
conducted by internal auditors, corporate auditors the Department of Transportation
(DOT), and BST (ISO-9002) quality auditors. Richard was involved with
safety for his entire career. He was a member of the fire brigade in each
facility where he worked. He has held the position of fire captain, assistant
fire chief and fire chief and has served as an instructor at Lamar University
and Texas A&M fire schools. He has also attended high angle rescue training
and served on the emergency medical team for six years. Richard earned
an Associate of Arts degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from
San Jacinto College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Education
from the University of Houston and a Master of Science degree in Occupational
Education from the University of Houston.
