UGI-CSTEM Scholarship Award

Award: Up to 10,000 per academic year, dependent on student's FAFSA determined eligible

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Demonstrate financial need as defined for undergraduate students by the U.S.
    Department of Education for need based financial aid (FASFA)
  • College applicants must satisfy
    • Minimum 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in college
    • Major in Computer Science
  • High School applicants must satisfy:
    • Minimum score of 450 on SAT math and verbal exam sections
    • Credit for at least pre-calculus

  • A completed UGI-CSTEM application form
  • One-page typed statement of applicant’s academic and professional goals
  • Copy of official high school and/or college transcript(s)
  • Copy of current SAT or other standardized exam scores (i.e. ACT) for High-School applicants
  • A sealed recommendation letter from current counselor or instructor

Edwin and Justine Hodgess Memorial Scholarship

Award: $750 is guaranteed for Fall 2014, and is renewable for Spring 2015


  • Be a declared major in Applied Statistics, or Mathematics (B.A. or B.S.)
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Have completed at least 45 credit hours toward the degree, at least 30 or more are from UHD
  • Be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours in the semester the scholarship is received
  • The scholarship may be received up to 2 academic years.


All applicants must submit the following materials together in one envelope to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics (S705) by April 17, 2014.
  • A scholarship application includes: updated personal information (name, address, telephone number, email); any other scholarship received; any honors received
  • A personal essay that describes your educational goals and how this scholarship will help you achieve those goals
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty, at least one from a CMS faculty member familiar with your academic work
  • A current UHD transcript and official transcripts of all colleges attended

June P. Wood Memorial Scholarship Award

Award: $500 Fall and Spring semester

  • Be a declared major in Applied Mathematics
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Have completed at least 60 credit hours toward the degree
  • Be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours in the semester scholarship is received

UHD Noyce Mathematics Teacher Scholarship

Award: $12,000 per year for two years

  • UHD student majoring in mathematics and obtaining secondary teaching certification
  • Junior or senior status
  • Overall GPA of 2.8 or greater
  • U.S. citizen or national, or permanent resident alien

**Students earning scholarship funding will be required to teach mathematics in a "high needs" school district for two years for each year of funding after graduation.

  • Completed application packets will include the application, two letters of recommendation (one from a faculty member in Science or Mathematics), non-UHD transcript and a personal essay. The application can be downloaded at .

Cohen Premedical Studies Scholarship

Award: $1000 Full time

  • Degree-seeking student at UHD
  • Completed 24 UHD credit hours
  • Must be declared as a premedical student (the premedical student declaration form must be on file in the science office, Rm. N813).
  • Must have 60 semester hours of college level credit
  • Have a 3.25 minimum GPA
  • Register for 12 hours

Students are eligible to reapply for this scholarship in future semesters as long as they continue to meet the stated criteria for the scholarship.

Society of Plastic Engineers Scholarship

Award: $500 - $2000 per year

  • Students must have selected a major within Natural Science Department
  • Students must have a GPA above a 3.0
  • Students must be actively engaged in Plastic/Polymer research
  • Students must submit a 1 page summary of their research goals for submission to SPE
  • Students must be an active member of the SPE student chapter
  • Students must be a member of the SPE

Welch Foundation Scholarships

Award: From $1000 Full time to $500 Part time

  • Be a declared Chemistry major
  • Have a 2.5 minimum GPA
  • Have an interest in completing chemistry or geochemistry or biochemistry research with a science faculty mentor.
  • Registration for 3300 Research is recommended (Full Time Only)

You can receive this scholarship in addition to other scholarships for the same semester, depending upon your financial need.

Dr. Barry S. Garrett Endowed Scholarship Award

Award: $2000 Fall and Spring semester

  • Current member of the UHD Scholars Academy (SA) and a declared major in a Chemistry field
  • Overall GPA of 3.25 or greater
  • Graduating no sooner than next Fall semester
  • Nominations are accepted in the spring semesters (self-nominations are accepted)
  • Awards will be announced at the annual SA Spring Awards event and/or the SA Fall Orientation
  • The awardee will receive the Barry Garrett Scholarship as their SA scholarship ($2000 per semester) for the upcoming fall or spring semester. Thus, the awardee must be an active SA member and enrolled in UHD courses that lead to finishing their chemistry degree in the semester awarded.
  • The selected recipient's name will also be engraved within the perpetual plaque outside the SA office

Scholars Academy Scholarship

Award: 150+ Scholarships of up to $5,000 per academic year

  • For high school senior applicants:
    • Minimum unweighted overall 3.0 GPA overall (on a 4.0 scale)
    • Minimum score of 500 on SAT math and verbal sections; or equivalency on other standardized exams
    • Credit for at least pre-calculus in high school preferred
  • For transfer applicants or current UHD students:
    • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in college within last 4-5 years
  • Enrolled at UHD as a full-time student and a member of the Scholars Academy
  • Declare your major within one of the following departments at UHD: Mathematics and Statistics; Computer Science and Engineering Technology; or Natural Sciences
  • Most scholarships require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency; internationals are still invited to apply
