Houston PREP held its 2nd Annual
NASA/Career Day at UHD on July 11, 2002. Sangeeta Gad, Program
Coordinator, Donna Dickson-White and Regina Turner, PREP Instructors, who
implemented NASA curriculum in PREP, led this event. Guest speakers from NASA
Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center (JSC) included: Laurie Yvette Carrillo, Engineer
for the Office of Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science; Andrea
Beatrice Mosie, Senior Research Scientist, Lunar Curatorial Laboratory; and
George Salazar, Project Engineer. Additional Speakers included: Dr. R. Barnes, UHD, Professor of Computer and Mathematical Sciences; Mitsue Nakamura, UHD
Lecturer in Mathematical Sciences; Drs. Lisa Morano and Phyllis Griffard, UHD
Biology Professors; Dr. Byron Chrismas, UHD Chemistry Professor; and NASA
Ambassadors (Memling Altamirano, Monica Cardenas, Maricela Castillo, and Sandy
Lee).
NASA Day
also entailed PREP students’ presentations, which were based on research of the
solar system, and a hall of student poster presentations. Faculty members
judged the projects based on creativity and design principles. Public Speaking
was offered to enhance confidence in speaking to groups of people.
