Center for Computational Science and Advanced Distributed Simulation (C2SDS)

Research Experience for Undergraduates(C2SDS-REU)

Deadline 8:00 am April 30th, 2012

A Word from the Director

As part of C2SDS’s commitment to the advancement of UHD students in STEM fields, each semester we provide students with the opportunity to take part in REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) programs funded through various national agencies and organizations.
As a member of the UHD community and a fellow research advisor I encourage all UHD students to apply for this program.

- Richard A. Aló, PhD

Program Objective:

The C2SDS REU program is designed to create a unique interdisciplinary research opportunity for UHD students to gain valuable experience and acquire critical skills essential for undergraduate students. Participants will be placed in one of the many different programs available and integrated seamlessly into a singular researcher environment by joining an Affinity Research Pods (ARP). ARPs are interdisciplinary groups of students focusing on a common goal. The disciplines represented by the ARP members are directly related to the focus of the particular pod’s research topic.

Through this mechanism, the Center brings together individuals with different perspectives and expertise, allowing for a rich exchange of ideas and wholesome learning experience for those involved. Such research environments foster constructive collaboration, team based learning and important real world skills.

Funding and Open Door Policy:

Applicants approved by the selection committee will qualify for a scholarship/stipend. At the discretion of the committee applicants are placed in one of three different programs and will be contacted with the program details.

Applicants that do not meet requirements or submitted their applications after the deadline may still be given the opportunity to partake in research without a scholarship. This allows students better prepare themselves for the next application cycle by increasing their skill set and experience.

In order to apply you need to:

  1. Fill out the Research Application
  2. Email the completed application to
  3. Deliver additional documents (as indicated in the application form) to the C2SDS office
If you need further information please contact C2SDS at 713-221-8207
