The College of Sciences and Technology prepares students for careers or
post-graduate study and research in the sciences, technology, mathematics
and computer science. Faculty provide quality instruction as they bring
leading-edge science and technology into the classroom. The college responds
and works with government and industry through cooperative research programs
and grants which enhance the educational environment and experiences of
our majors.
The UHD Scholars Academy is an academically competitive program within the College of Sciences and Technology at the University of Houston-Downtown that promotes scholarship and student success for undergraduate students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The College of Sciences and Technology offers another unique opportunity - the chance to do hands-on research in a number of laboratory and research settings, including the Scholars Academy ,the Center for Applied Polymer Science Research and the Center for Computational Sciences and Advanced Distributed Simulation.
Engineering technology programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Graduates can go on to work as members of design teams of engineering firms and construction companies.

The College of Sciences and Technology assigns each declared major a faculty advisor/program coordinator to guide them on their degree plan throughout their academic career at the University of Houston-Downtown.
Joe Barajas assists students interested in pursuing a degree in the Sciences, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics. He is located in room N-723, and can be contacted at 713-221-8160 or at BarajasJoe@uhd.edu. Mr. Barajas is available for consultations by appointment Monday-Friday and has late hours on Wednesday and Thursday.

Texas STAR award presented to UHD’s Scholars Academy
In December 2004, UHD Scholars Academy was awarded the Texas Higher Education Star Award, established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to recognize exemplary contributions toward closing the educational gaps that challenge the state. The Scholars Academy has received acknowledgement nationally as an exemplar for fostering academic success within an urban university environment.
