Department of Urban Education requirements for Formal Admission into the Teacher Education/Certification program: 

  • A GPA of 2.5 overall
  • Passage of all three sections of the THEA
    (Texas Higher Education Assessment, no exemptions) or TASP.
    Scores: Math 230, Reading 230, and Writing 220
  • Passed ENG 1301 Composition I and ENG1302 Composition II
  • Passed MATH 1301 College Algebra or MATH 1310 College Mathematics for Liberal Arts
  • 30 college credit hours
  • Declare major in Academic Advising – 380 South

    (One course from ENG 2301, ENG 2302, ENG 2311, ENG 2312, ENG 2313, or ENG 2314)

  • The DUE will process all applications for the TOPT.
  • To be recommended for the TOPT, a student must meet the following criteria:
    • 2.5 Cumulative GPA
    • Passing scores or approved exemptions on all sections of the THEA         
    • Successful completion of Block I and Block II
    • Successful completion of Block I and Block II Exams
