THEA exemptions are for Post Baccalaureate (Deficiency Plan) students only. Undergraduate students are not allowed to be exempt from the THEA. Students who meet one of the following criteria are exempt from the THEA test.
Exemptions:
- Students with an ACT composite score of 23 or higher, with individual math and English scores of no less than 19 are THEA exempt. ACT scores can be no more than five years old. Residual ACT cannot be used for THEA exemption.
- Students with recent SAT composite score of 1070 or higher, with 500 verbal and 500 math, are THEA exempt. A composite score for a test prior to 1995 must be 970 or higher, with 420 verbal and 470 math for THEA exemption.
- Students with exit-level TAAS scores of 1770 or higher in writing, TLI of 89 in reading, and TLI of 86 in math are THEA exempt. TAAS scores can be no more than three years old. (The TAAS is a test given in Texas Public High Schools.)
- Students with a "B" or better in a course from the list may be exempted from the respective section of the THEA. Courses may be no more than five years old.
- Student must submit THEA Test Exemption Form with Deficiency Plan application. This does not guarantee that student will receive THEA exemption.
