Student Awarded Texas Student of the Year
The Department of Urban Education in the College of Public Service is proud to announce that recent UHD graduate John Wolf has been awarded the Texas Student Teacher of the Year Award by the Texas Directors of Field Experiences. John completed student teaching during the spring 2010 semester at Carmichael Elementary in Aldine Independent School District. He credits his outstanding professors in the Department of Urban Education as major contributors to his success in student teaching.
His UHD Supervisor states, βIn 50 years working in education, I have not seen another so perfectly suited for his role as educator in the classroom. I wish John had taught my two sons.β Dr. Jane Thielemann-Downs said, βI found him to be a very caring teacher with a sincere devotion to improving the academic achievement of all of his students.β John submitted a lengthy application, a video of himself teaching a lesson to his students, and a reflection critiquing his lesson.
He has accepted a science teaching position at Berry Elementary in Houston Independent School District, where he attended school as a child. John will be recognized and presented with his award at the annual Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education (CSOTTE) Conference in October 2010.
