If you are ready to declare a major in the UHD College of Public Service, simply follow the process listed below.

How do I declare my major in the College of Public Service?

Declaring a major in the College of Public Service involves applying to the College of Public Service for a BS in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) or a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies Teaching Certification (BAIS Teaching Certification).

Students are strongly recommend to apply for a major upon eligibility to ensure they receive a complete evaluation and to meet with a College of Public Service advisor.

Once I apply to declare my major, how long does the application process take?

  • The application process can take up to four (4) weeks. Once a student receives acceptance, she/he receives notification via mail or gatormail.
  • If applications occur during high-peak registration, the application process may take longer.
  • Students are encouraged to submit his/her application no later than the semester prior to the semester she/he wishes to begin upper-level coursework

Major Declaration Application

Once a student completes the Major Declaration Application form, there are three ways to complete the application:

  • Submit form in person to the CPS Advising Services, Commerce Bldg., C420
  • Submit form via email to cpsadvisor@uhd.edu
  • Submit form via fax at 713-223-7409

GPA Requirements (By Degree)

Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree (BSCJ)

Students currently enrolled at UHD with a GPA of 2.0 or higher on all coursework at UHD

Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (BAIS) degree

Students currently enrolled at UHD with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher (includes all transfer and UHD credits) and have passed ALL sections of the THEA may apply to declare their major for the BAIS Teaching Certification degree. Please note: The preferred application method for this degree is to submit your application in person, via email, or by fax.

Joint Admissions

Joint Admissions community college/UHD students with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher (includes all transfer and UHD credits) and have passed ALL sections of the THEA may apply to declare their major for the BAIS Teaching Certification degree.

Students who want to declare a major in the College of Public Service B the following conditions:

  • Have all transcripts and grades posted on file at UHD
  • Have earned a minimum of 30 college-level credit hours
  • Have completed English 1301 and 1302 or equivalent
  • Have completed Math 1301/1310 or higher
  • Have cleared all holds
  • Have satisfied all TSI requirements

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the UHD College of Public Service Advising Center (see chart immediately below). Advising Center Hours are Monday – Friday, from 8:00am - 5:00pm. The Advising Center is closed on holidays.
