I found journalism early in middle school, but it wasn’t until high school that I fell in love with it. I believed journalism was simply storytelling until I attended the Investigative Reporters and Editors Conference, IRE, in July 2013. There, I learned that journalism is considered to be the fifth estate of the government, although, it is not explicitly written. I chose Professional Writing over Communication Studies because I want to be equipped with different styles of writing in order to apply for different job positions. I hope to publish bilingual children’s books, and become a 6th grade teacher at 50 years old.

Major: English
I have always enjoyed reading; my love for books began when I was small. My mother would often take me to the library to check out books so reading became something I enjoyed. This is why I am majoring in English. In the future, I plan to work for a non-profit organization.
